A sample of metal used to make bombers during World War II. A bright silver thick slab printed with a blue border and a black airplane and the words "Sample of 5/8 inch 75S-T6 Aluminum Alloy Wing Root Skin of the World's Fastest Bomber/ Skin tapers to 3/16 inch thickness at wing tip./ Boeing B-47 StratoJet". The B-47 StratoJet first appeared in 1944, but was most extensively utilized from 1947 to 1967, when production ended. The bottom is covered with felt.
