A silver and silver filigree frame around a silver central plaque to form a small delicate metal card that was an annual railway pass. Set onto the filigree in silver "Rio Grande Southern Railroad/ Pass 1892/ Silverton R.R." Engraved into the central plaque Geo. W. Boyd/ No. 182/ Otto Mears/ Pres't". The Rio Grande Southern Railroad was a narrow gauge railroad that ran through southern Colorado from Ridgeway to Durango to support the silver industry from 1889 until 1901 when a decline in silver mining and an increase in the expansion of transcontinental railways begin to marginalize the smaller systems and eventually absorb them.
