Cast silver tray; flat, kidney-shaped dish with applied, cast, galleried sides and an applied, cast diamond and ball band around the rim; two cast vine and leaf handles applied to opposite ends of hte tray; punched and engraved floral and geometric band around the edge of the dish; engraved and punched trefoil and geometric band around a circular reserve in the center of the tray; reserve engraved, "R/S" superimposed; engraved on the base, "Silver Wedding/ June 1st 1872" in script; makers' marks on the base.

Inscription: engraved at center of tray: "R/S" superimposed Inscription: engraved on the base: "Silver Wedding/ June 1st 1872" in script Mark: stamped on the base: crowned, "E & Co" in a shield, "E" in gothic script in a chamfered square, "&" in a chamfered square, "Co" in gothic script in a chamfered square, "K" in roman letters in a chafered rectangle Mark: Above Elkington marks is incuse stamp, possibly of town [?], consisting of diamond with interior lozenge containing "Rd" surrounded by "I/T" at top; "m" and "7" at center; obscured "s" or bead at bottom. Mark: Rim of reverse is also stamped at top with numbers and star "11360/*", which presumably relate to tray pattern. Also at left of rim reverse is "s" of yet undetermined meaning. Reverse also has several scratched numbers, which may related to scratch weights, on bottom and rim. Located on bottom to right of hallmarks is number "1044". Located to right of left handle are numbers "276" and "398". Engraving: center initials framed with ten bands of ornamental engraving beginning (from interior to exterior) with circular frame of machine engraved leaf-and-bead border; circular frame of guilloche border; outward-facing circular frame of leaf-and-bead border; then surrounded by two panels of triangular reserves with guilloche border; surrounded by triangular engrailing with beads; then wide kidney-shaped border of alternate geometric chain with interior floral or cartouche reserves framed by row of beads and with beaded-wave border.
