Description 
White cotton duck trousers with white lacing down the side of each leg; 6 buttons around the waistband, right side watch pocket beneath the waistband; 5 button fly with fabric tab to the left at the top which fastens to a button on the inside; horizontal slit pockets at the front of each hip; 2 straps at the back which fasten at the center to a rectangular metal buckle with double-tongued chape, no rear pockets; waist and pockets lined with white cotton.

These trousers were worn by Samuel Verplanck Hoffman (1866-1942). An expert astronomer, Hoffman was benefactor of a significant portion of the Society's astrolabe collection. He followwed his father as president of the Society from 1903-1913.
