Cast silver and wooden trowel with a turned wooden handle with a silver ring finial, cylindrical handle socket and a bent stem with a triangular drop; diamond-shaped blade.

This trowel was presented by the State of New York to John Maynard of Salina, the builder of the first lock on the Erie Canal at Lockport, NY. The canal was begun in 1817 and completed 1825.
