Gilt copper struck medal with obverse depicting female allegorical figure of Liberty placing laurel wreaths on heads of Industry, at left, and Art, at right, date "1876" in exergue, at center; surrounding legend: "IN COMMEMORATION OF THE HUNDREDTH ANNIVERSARY OF AMERCIAN INDEPENDENCE./ACT OF CONGRESS JUNE 1874." Reverse depicts female allegorical figure of Liberty holding sword in her right hand, above are thirteen stars in glory; date in exergue, at center: "1876"; surrounding legend: "THESE UNITED COLONIES ARE, AND OF RIGHT OUGHT TO BE, FREE AND INDEPENDENT STATES."
