Miss Potter, the daughter of Congressman Clarkson Potter of New York, devoted her life to improving the conditions of working women. As early as 1885 she was associated with the New York League of Girls' Clubs. She established the first New York hotel exclusively for girls and organized the Manhattan Trade School for Girls.
