Wooden cane with tapering straight shaft, silver knob handle, and brass ferule with iron tip.
Gallery Label: 
According to accession records, this cane was made of wood from the U.S.S. Vandalia. There were two American naval fighting ships called "Vandalia." The first, an 18-gun sloop-of-war, was launched in 1828, was active during the Civil War, and was broken up between 1870 and 1872. The second "Vandalia," a screw sloop, was launched in 1876, served with the Pacific Squadron , and sank in a storm off Samoa in 1889.
