This miniature was acquired from Evert Duyckinck Newman, the grandson of William Bleecker, Jr. and of Margaret (Kingston) Bleecker. It was apparently executed around the time of Bleecker's marriage to Margaret Kingston. Her portrait was made in miniature around the same time. The two miniatures may have been exchanged by the young couple as mementos of their betrothal.
