William Coventry Henry Waddell is pictured in this group portrait with his second wife, née Charlotte Augusta Southwick, and their three young children, William (b.1843), Anne (b. 1847), and Ida (b. 1845); Alice (b. 1834), his daughter by first wife, reclines on the grass at the lower right. In the background is the "Waddell Villa," a splendid house designed by Alexander Jackson Davis which stood on the corner of Fifth Avenue and 37th Street.
