The subject was born in Athens, Pennsylvania, the son of Captain Edward Henry Perkins, U.S.N. He came to New York in 1881 and joined the Importers and Traders National Bank. He later became associated with the Fourth National Bank and finally with the Bank of America of which he was president from 1890 until his retirement in 1920. The donor succeeded Perkins as president of the B of A.
