In time for the upcoming sesquicentennial marking the end of the Civil War, the New-York Historical Society
is featuring the exhibition “Homefront & Battlefield: Quilts & Context in the Civil War.” Running April 4 through Aug. 24, the exhibition uses approximately 130 objects, including quilts, clothing and other artifacts, to explore the ways that textiles expressed the era’s politics and culture. The show, from the American Textile History Museum
in Lowell, Mass., where it was shown in 2012, includes additional artifacts from the New-York Historical Society’s collection.
