Token; metal; very worn with dints and holes; depiction Andrew Jackson in military garb, emerging from the roof of a building with a sword and purse in hand, on the obverse, and a ship on the reverse; obverse "I TAKE THE / RESPONSIBLITY" reverse "VAN BURREN / METALLIC 1837 CURRENCY"

The image of the sword and purse in Jackson's hands continued for some time after the Whigs had gained control of the government. The implication was that the country's liberties were threatened under the Van Burren administration, by a union of a sword and purse in the same hands.
