Description
Silk lithographed campaign kerchief with an image of a smoking cannon and an American flag with 30 stars; inscription above and below; red wavy striped border with blue cantons with 13 stars in the corners; printed in red, blue and sepia on a white ground.
The kerchief is a full loom-width with selvedges at the right and left sides; the upper and lower edges are turned and hand-stitched. A series of very small holes near the selvedge at the lower left suggest that a fabric or paper may have been stitched to the silk at some time but these holes are not visible along any other edge. The N-YHS identification tag is stitched to the reverse at the upper left corner.
