Brown leather saddle without pommel with deep u-shaped seat and metal fittings; stirrups with leather toe protectors hang from adjustable leather straps on each side.

This saddle was used during the Civil War in the Battle of Gettysburg, July 1-3, 1863, by Major General James Barnes (1801-1869). He was the grandfather of the donor.
