Description
Wood, iron, and silver flintlock pistol; cannon barrel with cock mounted at top; iron furniture; bag handle with grotesque silver face buttcap; engraved flowers on trigger bow, barrel tang, and both plates; engraved crosshatching behind cock; stamped marks on barrel and left plate; stamped proofs at breech of barrel.

According to accession records, this pistol belonged to the donor's great-great grandfather, Philip Schuyler, a New York landowner who was commissioned a major general by Congress in June, 1776, and commanded the army's Northern Department until his replacement by Horatio Gates in August, 1777.
