Description
Brown painted bench with U-shaped supports front and back joined by horizontal metal arm supports; top of each support surmonted with turned, ball-shaped finial; hinged seat with cow hide upholstery; seat rail has carved head; legs in reverse U-shape joined by dowel stretchers.

This bench was used by actor Edwin Thomas Booth (1833-1893) in the stage productions of William Shakespeare's Hamlet during the years 1864-1891. He was renowned for his 100-night run of the play in New York City in 1864-1865.
