Description
Mahogany Federal style side chair; square, arcaded back with carved tablet centered in top rail and four slender, square colonettes with carved palm-leaf spandrels; trapezoidal seat upholstered over the rail with zig-zag patterned textile; square, tapering front legs with spade feet and slighly back swept rear legs.

This Federal style chair is a reproduction in the manner of Abraham Slover and Jacob B. Taylor, cabinetmakers active in New York in the early nineteenth century. The New York cabinetmaking firm of Sypher and Company, active in the late nineteenth century, made chairs after this pattern.
