Leather and brass sword belt; brown buff leather with frog sewn to loop that suspends from left side of belt, and brass hook at right end that fastens to holes on left; handwritten mark on belt interior.

According to accession records, this belt for a sailor's boarding cutlass was salvaged from the sinking Union frigate Cumberland after her bombardment by the Confederate steamer Merrimack on March 8, 1862.
