The plate is from a large service of 435 pieces made for Willem V, Stadholder of the Netherlands (1748-1806), by the Meissen Manufactory. The service features views of cities and buildings painted after printed sources. It was sold in 1823 and subsequently dispersed around the world. The largest collection is currently at Het Loo palace near Apeldoorn, the Netherlands.
The inscription on the reverse of this plate indicates that the view represents the Dutch town of Breukelen.
