Description
Colorless lead glass oil lamp with blown font and pressed base; bulb-shaped font joined by three wafers to the square base consisting of a plinth on three steps; plinth decorated with baskets of fruit on the four sides and projecting pilasters at the corners surmounted by a lion's head; four shallow bosses on base; sheet brass collar and screw-on double wick holder.

At least three variations of this lion's head base exist. The original, made by moldmakers Enock Robinson and Spencer Richards of the New England Glass Company, was quickly copied by Boston and Sandwich, who added pad feet to the base.
