Frederick Carder of the Steuben Glass Works was Tiffany's most talented competitor. In 1904 he began producing Aurene glass, a gold metallic luster glass which closely resembled Tiffany's Favrile glass. In 1913, Tiffany filed a lawsuit claiming infringement, but the suit was dropped because Tiffany's patent was too general.
