Description
Maple Windsor settee; painted black with gold details; back with straight crest rail even with arm rails; turned front arm supports; bamboo-turned center medial stretcher flanked by stretchers with rings and bulbous centers; stretchers running front-to-back also with rings and bulbous centers; through tenons on legs.

This settee is said to have been used on Robert Fulton's steamboat, the "Clermont," the first commercially successful steamboat in the United States. The "Clermont" began operating between New York City and Albany, New York, in 1807 and was retired in 1814.
