N-YHS Museum Collection Rectangular table with pine top (old, but not original) on maple and oak base; shaped apron; block-and-reel-turned legs with reels like the threads of a screw; reel-turned front and back stretchers joined at vertical mid-point of legs, and reel-turned side stretchers joined near bottom of legs.
Gift of Mrs. J. Insley Blair
The donor acquired this table from Ralph Warren Burnham of Ipswich, Massachusetts. The distinctive reel turnings of the base are similar to those found on two dressing tables, now at Winterthur and the Art Institute of Chicago, believed to have been made in the vicinity of Salem, Massachusetts.
