Sir William Johnson, the Mohawk Valley pioneer and colonial superintendent of Indian affairs, was buried in the Episcopal church in Johnstown, NY in 1774, and was reinterred during the rebuilding of the church in 1862, at which point this coffin fragment was recovered.
