Description
Mahogany Federal Pembroke table with one drawer; rectangular form with two drop leaves with ovolo corners and inlaid herringbone banding; supported on four tapering, squared legs with stringing; legs terminate in brass sabots with casters.

According to the accession records, this table was owned by James Bogert, Jr. (1775-1859) and his wife, Elizabeth Benezet Bogert. According to Mrs. Sheldon Leavitt, wife of the donor and a descendant of the Bogerts, family tradition had it that Martha Washington was served tea at this table when James Bogert, Jr. served in the Treasury Dept. during the Washington administration.
