This tapestry cover on this footstool resembles the upholstery on a suite of chairs and sofas ordered by James Beekman, Jr. in 1819 from New York City cabinetmaker John Banks and upholstered by William Denny. The suite was used in the octagon room of Beekman's country estate, Mount Pleasant, located at today's 51st Street and the East River.
