Description
Oval needlework picture in various colors silk floss, chenille and paint on horizontal rectangular silk ground, depicts a pastoral scene of a female child in raised chenille beside a lamb with a floral wreath around its neck, the sky and the head and arms of the figure are painted, the picture is framed in embroidered vine pattern with metal spangles, with a blue and white bow beneath, and a floral garland above suspended on the right and left and in the center with bow ties; stitches include satin, outline, couching and knots.

This embroidery was possibly done at the Misses Patten School in Hartford, Connecticut. The needlework done at that school is represented by some of the elements found in this picture--the floral garland suspended by bow ties and the spangles, for example.
