Description
Wool machine sewn U.S. flag with forty-four white cotton stars in the canton (two rows of eight stars at top an bottom, four rows of seven stars center); red and white stripes; white cotton hoist with metal grommets at each end.

Gallery Label
This U.S. flag flew over Woodcliff, the home built by Augustus C. Richard 1855-1857, during the Civil War. It was rescued by the family as they fled across the Harlem river to avoid the draft riots. The home was later known as Libbey Castle and was torn down in 1931 to make way for Fort Tryon Park. Stars were added to the flag around 1890, to bring the number to the present fourty-four.
