White linen summer dress coat (tailcoat) with a small rolled collar notched to join the lapels; single-breasted with a double row of five linen covered buttons; long sleeves with two buttons at the cuff; "cut away" at the waist with single pleated coat-tails at the back.

This dress coat belonged to Robert Hilton Arlenburgh, grandfather of the donor, who lived between 68th and 69th Sts. east of the present West End Ave. from 1852-1870.
