White cotton whitework cotton embroidered lace dickey (men's shirt front), an openwork floral stripe goes down the center between four vertical buttonholes, surrounded with border of openwork leaf design and embroidered daisies.

Shirtfronts like these were worn over the closure part of men's formal shirts and were popular around the middle of the 19th century. A note found with this shirt front says that it was buttoned to the front of the grandfather of the donor. An cameo stud button showing a woman in an outdoor setting remains anchored in the top buttonhole.
