Thomas E. Dewey ran on the Republican ticket against Harry Truman, the incumbant, for president in 1948. The slogan "Clean House with Dewey" refered to the general dissatisfaction the American public held for Truman and his legislative agenda. Dewey did not campaign on any issues, believing American negativism toward Truman would be enough for a victory. Truman was re-elected in 1948.
