Description
Ecru linen close-fitting lace baby bonnet, overall hand embroidered whitework in shell and laurel leaf motif design centering from crown on drawnwork and bobbin lace net ground; a row of gadrooned oval pattern borders hemmed edges.

This was the baby bonnet of John Pintard (1759-1844), the founder of the New-York Historical Society in 1804. His deep interest in history made him a moving force in the establishment of other cultural institutions, including the Massachusetts Historical Society.
