Description
Pair of brass cloak pins with circular faces; each with stamped image of bust of Thomas Jefferson, with "JEFFERSON" stamped at bottom of bust; turned post with threaded screw at end.

Gallery Label
Marchant was probably the designer of these cloak pins and Pingo the engraver. Both men were active in London. The dies that they created were most likely sent to Matthew Boulton's Soho manufactory in Birmingham for production. Metal disks stamped with profile portraits, such as those used in these cloak pins, were also incorporated into mirror knobs, chimney hooks, curtain knobs, cabinet handles, and box lids. (See D. L.
