Pair of stamped brass drawer pulls with low relief bust Thomas Jefferson facing left; "JEFFERSON" stamped in lower right below bust; pulls have circular face with beaded edges and circular back plate; threaded screw projects from back.

Gallery Label
Marchant was probably the designer of these drawer pulls and Pingo the engraver. Both men were active in London. The dies that they created were most likely sent to Matthew Boulton's Soho manufactory in Birmingham for production. Metal disks stamped with profile portraits, such as those used here, were also incorporated into cloak pins, mirror knobs, chimney hooks, curtain knobs, cabinet handles, and box lids. (See D. L.
