Overall: 25 x 9 in. ( 63.5 x 22.9 cm )
Favrile glass and wire filigree hurricane lamp with urn-shaped favrile glass shade, wire filigree and jewel crown, and wire filigree base; Persian-style crown with pointed top terminating in ball finial, and five elliptical ruby-red glass jewels; blown glass ecru shade with five slender yellow-brown lily-type leaves; circular base raised on five pairs of ball feet has five leaflike filigree supports.
Gift of Dr. Egon Neustadt, 1984
The earliest lamp in the collection, this example may pre-date Louis Comfort Tiffany's 1894 Favrile Glass patent. Irregularities in coloration and surface texture suggest that the shade was created while Tiffany was still experimenting with the decoration of blown glass. Though it is now electrified, the shade was made for use with candles.
