Description
Vertically oriented narrow rectangular belt buckle of yellow metal with onyx cameo at the center; overall design on obverse is floral openwork in arabesque shape, cameo depicts male figure in Spartan helmet; clasp fastener on reverse is hinged at the bottom and clasps at the top, vertical hinged chape and tongue at the center.

This belt buckle belonged to Betsy Pierce, daughter of Revolutionary soldier and New Hampshire governor Benjamin Pierce (1757-1839). Betsy and Benjamin were sister and father of President Franklin Pierce (1804-1869).
