Description
Wrought silver cake basket; circular, lobed body with convex, flared sides; engraving alternates between a floral design and cartouches on each lobe; applied, cast and pierced foliate scroll band around the rim; cast and pierced handle with foliate decoration attached to two cylindrical hinges on opposite sides of the body; seated on a circular stepped foot with a band of foliate engraving and a beaded mid-band; engraved in the center of the bowl, "J. L. M./ from her aunt/ M. L. S." in script; Lenox family arms engraved in one cartouche, four quadrants, one and four lions rampant on gold grounds, two and three, silver St. Anthony's cross between four roses; makers' marks on the base.
