Description
Porcelain bowl decorated with band of blue enamel jagged border topped by iron red and gilt bands on interior rim; blue and gold rose on either side of exterior bowl.

According to the donor, George Washington ate milk and bread from this bowl on November 11, 1789 while residing at Ozias Marvin's Inn at Norwalk, CT. This bowl descended in the Marvin family. (See "The Diaries of George Washington 1748-1799, volume IV", p. 51, for mention of lodging on November 11, 1789 at Major Marvin's.
