Sarah Byard was baptised March 11, 1683, and she married Abraham Groesbeck Chambers on August 26, 1703. Her father Petrus Byard, came from Holland in 1647 and married Blandina Kierstede on November 4, 1674. Her mother died in 1702, leaving in her will 12 pounds to have a tankard made when she married or came of age. It is possible that she used this money for the belt buckle, as she was twenty-one before she married and it is engraved with her maiden name.
