Description
Wrought silver chinoiserie pitcher; pear-shaped body on a molded, circular foot; fluted neck with an applied, scalloped rope rim and engraved acanthus leaves over the flutes; s-curve handle with an all over hand-stamped snake-skin ground with applied Asian vines and flowers; applied, cast sea shell spout with foliate scrolls along the joint; all over repouss

Inscription: engraved in the cartouche: "K S C H" in script
Mark: stamped on the base: "TIFFANY, YOUNG & ELLIS" in roman letters
Mark: Scratch weights and marks also incised at bottom, including "32/10" and "115"
Engraving: Pitcher has repousse, chased, and small amount of engraved ornamentation across entire body of pitcher. Ornament along neck of pitcher is border of repousse and chased acanthus drops. Body ornament is repousse, chased, and engraved Chinoiserie panorama consisting of four scenes (beginning clockwise from center-back) including, Chinese man sitting on brick wall holding rope attached to flying bird, against background of birds, landscape, foliage, and garden; scene of woman with fan in garden against background of pagodas, spires, brick wall, and landscape; Chinese man fishing in pond from bridge with pagodas, foliage, and mountains in background; and woman in garden tending flowers with brick wall, fence, pagoda, man, birds, and mountains in background. Panorama scenes are divided, at left and right sides, by trees, at center-front by cartouche with repousse and chased shells, acanthus foliage, and diaper reserve borders, and at center-back with lower handle socket applied to diaper cartouche with foliate scroll frames and with foliage. Entire panorama is also on caillote or pebbled ground.
