According to the donor, this heart-shaped box belonged to Julia Ann Curtis who was the donor's great grandmother. Ms. Curtis (who later became Mrs. Hugh Joseph Murray) received it from a woman while on her journey down the Hudson River to N.Y. from Newtown, Connecticut. The woman on the ship told Ms. Curtis that whenever she felt an inclination to do evil to look at the box and think of the woman who gave it to her.
