Brown wool felt campaign hat with "Montana peak" and wide, flat brim; crown with four ventilation holes with grommets; dark brown hat cord with dark brown acorn tips and slide; leather sweatband and chin strap.

According to the accession records, this hat was worn by the donor during World War I. From 1917 to the end of the war, Dunsmore served first with the Ninth Coast Artillery Corps and subsequently with the Regular Army at U.S. Army General Hospitals No. 5 and No. 41.
