Dark olive green wool felt campaign hat with "Montana peak" and wide, flat brim; crown with four ventilation holes with grommets; red hat cord with red acorn tips and slide; leather sweatband; chin strap of olive green cloth tape.

According to the accession records, this hat was worn by the donor during World War I. From 1917 to the end of the war, Dunsmore served first with the Ninth Coast Artillery Corps and subsequently with the Regular Army at U.S. Army General Hospitals No. 5 and No. 41. The red hat cord represents artillery.
