Description
Cast and wrought silver seal of Richard Harison; circular seal with tapered sides; engraved in the center with the arms of the Harison family in a cartouche surrounded by foliate scrolls, swags and a scallop motif; three eagles displayed in chief on a sable ground (grid) above four quadrants, 1 and 4 gold (spotted), 2 and 3 silver (empty), surmounted by a ducal crown and a talbot's head; engraved around the edge, ":RICHARD HARISON NOTARY PUBLICK NEW YORK IN AMERICA" in roman letters; maker's mark stamped on the underside.

Richard Harison (1747-1829) secured an appointment as New York City public notary from the British military governor James Robertson in 1780. He was appointed by George Washington in 1789 as the United States Attorney for the District of New York.
