Description
"Chasseur pattern" gray wool felt forage cap; black patent leather visor which is flat and somewhat rectangular; soft crown with circular, countersunk top with black braid applied around outer edge; vertical strips of braid applied center front, center back, and on either side of crown; black felt band around base of cap with braid on upper edge and metal numeral "7" attached to center front; chin strap buttons embossed with initials "N.G." between branches of oak and laurel (chin strap missing); black leather sweatband and black silk lining.

This cap was worn by the donor, who enlisted as a private in Co. K, 7th Regiment, National Guard New York, in November 1893, and was Honorably Discharged six years later, on November 3, 1899.
