Gray wool New York National Guard artillery dress trousers with 1 1/2" black stripe down the side of each leg; 6 button fly with fabric tab at the top extending to the left which fastens to a button inside, 6 buttons around the waistband, right side watch pocket beneath the waistband, horizontal slit pockets at the front hips which button closed; 2 straps at the back which buckle at the center on rectangular metal buckle with double-tongued chape, no rear pockets; all buttons plain metal with no markings; waistband and pockets lined with white twill-weave cotton.
These artillery trousers are part of a uniform worn by L. B. Smith when he served in the New York National Guard. The Society also owns the other items which were part of this uniform.
