Description
Dark blue wool Marine Corps dress hat with dark blue braid in cruciform interlace pattern stitched to top; black leather visor; chin strap made of gold metallic cloth tape with red stripe attached to leather backing; metal front insignia in the form of a half-globe superimposed on an anchor and surmounted by an eagle; buttons securing chin strap embossed with an eagle clutching an anchor below an arc or thirteen stars.

According to the accession records, this hat was worn as part of the dress uniform of the donor, who served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1942 to 1945, during which time he spent 25 months overseas with the First Marine Air Wing (FMAW). His dress trousers and blouse are also in the N-YHS Collection.
