Description
Olive drab wool service cap with brown leather visor and chin strap; gilded metal insignia consisting of shield-breasted eagle surmounted by banner and disk with thirteen stars; chin strap secured at either side by a button embossed with similar motif.

According to the accession records, this cap was part of the everyday winter uniform of the donor, Paul H. Downing, a lieutenant-colonel in the U.S. Army Air Corps and commanding officer of the Rochester (NY) Region Materiel Command during World War II. Various other parts of Downing's uniform are also in the N-YHS Collection.
