Dark blue wool enlisted man's full dress single-breasted coat, with gold-colored closed stand-up collar (2 hooks and eyes), with "ET" embroidered with metal thread near the edge on both sides; gold knots on the shoulders, 3 vertical rows of 6 buttons each down the front, with black cord lacing between the rows; gilt sleeve knots on each sleeve; 2 incurving vertical rows of black cord lacing on the back, each met with a button at the waistline; inside of bodice lined with white silk, bodice lightly padded and quilted, with metal clasp buckle at the waistline, vertical slit pocket at the left breast, short split skirt of coat lined with black silk.

According to a tag found with this coat, this was worn by an enlisted man in Essex Troop, 1st Troop National Guard of New Jersey.
